J’ai trouvé des lions                                               I found lions

et des renards                                                         and foxes

me guider.                                                               to guide me.

Ils ont émietté                                                         They crushed

le sentier.                                                                   the path.

Les pierres                                                                 The stones

ont coupé mes pieds.                                                cut my feet.

Le sang a laissé                                                           Blood left

une cicatrice                                                                 a scar

en le sentier                                                                  on the path

derrière moi.                                                                behind me.

 

Maintenant je marche                                                Now I’m crawling

à quatre pattes.                                                           (on all fours).

Ils se promènent                                                          They’re walking

grandement.                                                                   tall/largely.

J’ai regardé                                                                      I watched

ses yeux –                                                                        their eyes –

j’ai été malheureuse                                                       I was unhappy

à tout le monde.                                                               at everyone.

 

Et puis j’ai découvert –                                                  And then I discovered –

lentement –                                                                       slowly –

il y avait les larmes                                                         there were tears

derrière les sourires.                                                      behind the smiles.

Et il y avait le sang                                                            And there was blood

aux pas.                                                                               in their footsteps.

Et maintenant                                                                     And now

je me rends compte que                                                    I realize that

ils sont debout                                                                    they stand

seulement parce que                                                        only because

ils étaient guidés aussi.                                                     they also were guided.
